DONCASTER Council’s under scrutiny children’s services have brought in a new boss to take charge of assessing which children need help.
Tracey Newcomb is head of the children’s assessment service at the department, which was put under Government control two years ago because of failures which saw seven children die despite being known to the department.
Ms Newcomb, formerly head of social work at Nottingham City Council as well as working as a consultant to improve practice at Leicester City Council has more than 20 years of professional social care experience.
She will now lead on the ‘front door’ for assessment of children and their families across the borough.
Ms Newcomb said: “Despite the difficulties that Doncaster has had over recent years, I have already seen in my short time here that the leadership team is committed to achieving better performance and services to children and their families. I firmly believe this is a really exciting time for Doncaster.”
She added the service had come a long way in the last year and she looked forward to further improvements.
