Armed police arrest men over report of gun seen in Sheffield city centre

Armed police arrested two men after a claim that a gun had been seen in Sheffield city centre.

Officers searched the area around Campo Lane and Hartshead on Sunday night after a claim that a man had been seen with a firearm.

They arrested two men, aged 18 and 19, in nearby Church Street.

Armed officers were seen looking in and under cars and down alleyways as they searched the area.

The arrested men were searched and then released without charge.

A South Yorkshire Police spokeswoman said: "Two men, aged 18 and 19, were arrested in Church Street, Sheffield, following a report from a member of the public who believed they saw a man with a firearm.

"We received the report at around 10.50pm on Sunday

"Two men were arrested and searched but no firearm was found. They were both released without charge."
