Eight new apprenticeships will be available in Sheffield Council’s housing department as part of a pilot project.

Places are available from September, with a full launch to take place next year.

The council says many of its apprentices have gained full-time jobs.

Robert Barker, age 24, from Norwood, is now a permanent housing officer based at Crystal Peaks library, Waterthorpe.

He said: “An apprenticeship scheme ticked all the right boxes for me. I gained experience and received fantastic grounding from work colleagues and friends.”

The scheme will open opportunities in all areas of housing – from repairs to rent payments.
