Those living in private rented accommodation or who own their own home and currently have no insulation or efficient heating should apply for government funding.
The Department of Energy & Climate Change is endeavouring to spend the £30m still in its budget over the next few weeks.
Daft as it is that departments should not be able to carry over their budgets, the task now is to help those who qualify to apply.
The programme is called Warm Front and for those with gas heating there are grants available up to £3,500 and for oil fired heating up to £6,000. This can be for replacement of boilers or more efficient central heating, or for insulation measures.
Information on how to apply can be found by calling 0800 316 6011, or by going to the website at www.direct.gov.uk/warmfront.
Tell your MP of this care crisis
The social care system is in deep crisis and will only worsen unless the Government acts now. We need your help to get this message to decision makers.
Hundreds of older and disabled people and their families will travel to London for a mass lobby of Parliament tomorrow and we’re urging people to help MPs understand the need for urgent reform.
People are living longer with illness and disability yet social care budgets fell by an estimated £1bn last year. This is the opportunity of a generation for Government to improve the lives of millions and ease the strain on the already stretched NHS.
Social care is not a ‘nice to have’ extra – it is about giving people the support they need to live with dignity. Without this, many are condemned to a mere existence. See careandsupportalliance.org.
