Parents of year six pipuls living in Derbyshire can now apply to Derbyshire County Council for their children’s secondary school place for September 2017.
Around 8,200 year six primary school children – who were born between 1 September 2005 and 31 August 2006 – have been sent information on the application process.
Applying is easy and can be done online in the school admissions section of the county council’s website at www.derbyshire.gov.uk/admissions. The deadline to submit applications is midnight on Monday October 31.
When completing the application form parents will be asked to list, in order of preference, the three schools they would most like their child to go to.
Derbyshire County Council’s deputy cabinet member for children’s services, Coun Caitlin Bisknell, said: “Choosing a child’s secondary school is a very important decision for both the child and parent. Make sure you give yourself enough time to look at all of the schools in your area. If you miss the deadline you are less likely to get a place at your preferred school and could mean your child may have to travel further to an alternative school or not get into the same school as their friends.”
