POLICE bosses are inviting applications for volunteers to play an important role checking the welfare of detainees in South Yorkshire’s police cells.
Independent Custody Visitors inspect, observe and report how rights and welfare of detainees are being ensured.
Jenny Crofts, aged 24, from Rotherham, who has been an inspector for two years, said: “Being a custody visitor is a really good experience. People might not think of the criminal justice system as an area that needs volunteers but this is an important job and helps you put something back into the local community.”
Applications to become a custody visitor must be in by this Friday, May 6, at 4pm.
