Appeal's high note
A CELEBRATION of the orchestra's most difficult instrument also raised cash for a good cause at a French horn concert in aid of the £1 million Sheffield Cystic Fibrosis Appeal.
The event at St Marks Church, Broomhill, featured only the French horn as players came together to raise the roof in a rousing concert which showed off the instrument's versatility.
It also netted more than 1,000 for the Star-backed Cystic Fibrosis Appeal, which is raising money to bring a 'world class' inpatient unit for patients to the Northern General Hospital.
The musical director for the event was Anthony Halstead, who is a past principal hornist of the London Symphony Orchestra and now a renowned soloist and conductor. He conducted the group of horns in works by Beethoven, Bruckner and Humperdink, as well as a moving rendition of themes from The Titanic by James Horner.
Dr Frank Edenborough, amateur horn player, and lead consultant at Sheffield's Adult Cystic Fibrosis Centre, organised the event to support the fundraising appeal and indulge in his favourite past time. Frank said: "I was delighted at how this event came together, and for the support of so many of my fellow horn players.
"The event was a great success both in terms of the standard of the music, but also because it raised more than 1,000."
