An appeal has been launched after it was revealed around 300 children in Doncaster are in need of a foster family.
Those who think they could take on a fostering role are being encouraged to find out more about how they can help.
Doncaster mum-of-two Selina’s positive fostering experience has prompted her to encourage others to consider fostering.
Selina wasn’t sure what to expect when she received a call telling her that she’d been matched with a troubled 12- year-old girl who desperately needed a foster family.
Selina and her husband, Simon, already had their hands full with their two young boys, aged six and 10.
“At the point at which Clare joined us, she was continually truanting from school and getting into trouble. Unsurprisingly, her progress at school was very poor. At that point there were big question marks over her future.”
Just a year later, Clare is happy, settled and attending school consistently and her grades have shot up across the board – so much so that she has even been moved from the bottom sets to the top sets in her subjects.
“The most amazing part of our fostering experience has been the extent to which Clare has become such an integral part of our family. Our boys miss her when she’s not around and we can’t imagine life without her now.”
While many fostering placements are short-term and usually temporary, Selina and Simon have applied to care for Clare on a permanent basis.
