REMOVAL of old trees on a Sheffield housing estate has been called into question by a resident.
Esther Reeve, of Godric Road, Shiregreen, is unhappy that landlord Sanctuary Housing has chopped them down.
She said: “They have been there 60 years.
“The trees are among the few beautiful things about the estate. Stumps look horrible.”
Sanctuary Housing’s regional regeneration manager Helen Wright said: Sanctuary Housing is carrying out improvements on the Shiregreen Estate following close consultation with residents.
“As part of the project, trees which are dead, diseased or blocking pedestrian footways are being removed and 400 trees will be planted in streets.
“A further 50 trees will be planted in green spaces within the estate.”
