DOG owners are spoiling some of Sheffield’s most picturesque spots by failing to clean up after their dogs, according to one of the region’s largest landowners.

Yorkshire Water claims the issue has reached ‘epidemic proportions’ - and some dog walkers have even taken to hanging bags of canine waste from trees, rather than placing it in dedicated bins.

The company says Sheffield sites such as Redmires, Damflask and Agden are becoming problem spots, despite free disposal bags being given away regularly and many bins installed.

Geoff Lomas, of Yorkshire Water, said the firm has spent millions of pounds tidying up dog mess, so people can enjoy clean reservoirs.

He said: “It’s sad that, despite our best efforts, people are having to spend more time watching where they’re walking rather than enjoying their walk and taking in the incredible views on offer.

“Not only does such irresponsible behaviour make it harder for everyone else to enjoy our beautiful sites, but it’s also unpleasant for the people who have to clear it up.”
