MULTI-million pound redevelopment work at a South Yorkshire rail station is finally set to be completed in the new year - 14 months late.
Transport bosses behind the £8.5 million scheme to rebuild Rotherham Central station have been criticised after it emerged the completion date - originally last December, will now be the end of February 2012.
Rotherham MP Denis MacShane said constituents were furious with the delays.
He said: “I am going to write to the transport secretary Justine Greening, who comes from Rotherham herself, about this.
“It is outrageous and sends out totally the wrong signal when relatively minor public sector jobs take so long.”
Mr MacShane said the building site at the station was an ‘eyesore’ and the temporary platforms and footbridges were ‘very disagreeable and said he would be tabling parliamentary questions to find out what had gone wrong.
