RESIDENTS on a Sheffield housing estate are furious over latest cuts to bus services which will mean frequency of their local route has been halved in the last decade.

People living at Wisewood used to have a bus to Hillsborough and the city centre every 10 minutes, but services run every 15 minutes at present.

Now First is to further cut the number 14 service to the estate and Loxley, to every 20 minutes from April 29.

Jean Gleadall, deputy chair of Wisewood Tenants’ and Residents’ Association, said: “First is treating our estate very badly. As it stands, the service is unreliable and a lot of people catch a community transport service from the estate into Hillsborough instead.”

Other routes being revised include the 11 and 12 to Stannington, 22 between Woodhouse and Nether Edge, 85 to Millhouses, the X4 and X5 to Dinnington and the 49 from Sheffield to Killamarsh.

The service to Stocksbridge will be ‘simplified’ from three routes to run as the 57 every 20 minutes.

The C1 to C6 bus services to Tesco at Millhouses are being withdrawn.

First said: “Most changes are based on customer feedback and aim to enhance our services.”

n Services 2, 25 and 35 in Rotherham are being axed and ‘partially replaced’ by changes to other services.
