A COUNCIL manager taken ill just before the Olympic torch relay in Rotherham - which he helped organise - finally got to see the flame.
Andy Lee, Rotherham Council’s green spaces manager, spent months preparing for the relay in Clifton Park on June 25 - but he missed out after being taken ill.
But thanks to an Olympic ‘friendship’ agreement with the London borough of Barking and Dagenham he has seen the torch.
Andy went down to the capital when the Rotherham Youth Service sent four young people down as special guests.
He said: “The atmosphere and turnout were fantastic, it really did help to make up for it, and even though it wasn’t in my home town at the event I had been involved in, it was still a special experience.”
