I don’t mind cleaning. I’d even go so far as to say I find it therapeutic. Most of the time.
But lately, all my va-va-vacuuming spirit seems to have disappeared. Come the weekend, there are other things I’d rather be doing than cleaning the kitchen and tackling the laundry pile - like watching the Olympics!
I admit, I’ve never cared for sports, but I’m positively glued to the TV at the moment. I’ve sat happily by while the ironing pile has grown this last two weeks as the Games have distracted me from more mundane tasks.
So on Sunday morning - taking the lead from good ol’ Jess! - Adam and I decided to shake-up our weekend routine with a special one-on-one event. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you... the housework Olympics 2012!
It started with a 100m laundry dash and climaxed with the Shake-and-Vac-Shot-Put. The rules were clear on the Dishwasher-Stack event, which is where I let my team down by attempting to overfill the tray. I did make up some ground on the Bedmaking event and even swung briefly into the lead when Adam almost snuck some illegal items into the tumble dryer (a handful of ‘reshape while damp’ tops - amateur!).
It came down to the last two chores; he changing the cat litter while I fed the two kittens who had watched us both curiously for the last hour.
In the end I crossed the finishing line first and a prouder day there never was.
I’d like to start by thanking my proud sponsors at Dettol and Pledge...
