Ambitious art scheme spells divide

A COMMUNITY in Sheffield has been divided over plans for an ambitious piece of public art.

Sharrow Community Forum has applied to install seven 1.5m-tall letters, spelling out S-H-A-R-R-O-W, in different spots around the district.

Residents' letters to the council describe the scheme as everything from "a monstrosity" and "eyesore" to "a colourful and unique exhibition of public art".

Planning officers have recommended the scheme be given permission when the city planning board meets.

Council leader Paul Scriven and other Lib Dems have opposed the scheme.
