PREPARATIONS are underway for Chesterfield’s Christmas light switch-on spectacular.
Gardening guru and pantomime star Charlie Dimmock will make a star appearance at the event on Sunday, December 2. Thousands of people are expected to flock to Rykneld Square to enjoy festivities taking place from 12noon, before the official switch-on at 4.45pm.
There will be a traditional feel to this year’s celebrations, with Santa Claus and a market - as well as walkabout characters, a festive competition and even Christmas karaoke.
Coun John Burrows, leader of Chesterfield Council, said: “We want to encourage people to come into Chesterfield for the switch-on but to also shop local throughout the whole of the festive period.”
