THE age-old tale of the nativity was brought powerfully to life in Stannington as villagers acted out the Christmas story.
Christ Church in Stannington organised its annual Christmas Live spectacle with real people portraying the events of Jesus’ birth.
Despite initial heavy rain, churchgoers playing the parts of Mary, Joseph, wise men and shepherds all helped to tell the tale in pub car parks across the village, starting at The Peacock on Stannington Road.
The yearly performance always sets up a very festive feel in time for Christmas for villagers in Stannington – and for the hundreds of visitors from elsewhere who travel to watch.
The Reverend Philip West, vicar of Christ Church in Stannington, said: “We thought of giving ourselves a rest from Christmas Live this year, but so many people protested.
“One lady told me she does not feel Christmas has started until she has been to Christmas Live.”
