Air guitar heroes get lots of feedback from Hillsboro' crowd

SHEFFIELD Wednesday were well and truly 'biffed' by Sunderland - but that didn't stop fans getting into the spirit of a record attempt.

Madcap spectators strummed imaginary guitars as legendary rocker Biff Byford and his band Saxon performed their new single If I Was You at Hillsborough at half-time.

With a 30,000 crowd, the mass air-guitar session could be the biggest head-banging, arm-strumming event of all time. If record-watchers agree, the crowd will earn a place in the Guinness Book of Records.

Saxon, who have been playing together since the early 1980s, will perform a one-off concert at Sheffield City Hall on Friday, promoted by Harvey Goldsmith, best known for his work with The Who, Live 8 and Live Aid.

The gig and the record attempt are being filmed for a one-hour special Channel 4 TV programme, Harvey Goldsmith Presents, to be shown in April.

The fun was marred when a brawl between spectators spilled onto the pitch. The game was stopped and four people were arrested.
