PROUD Sheffield air cadets showed off their silverware after finishing second in a regional running competition.

Members of 366 King Ecgbert Squadron Air Training Corps, based at Greenhill, travelled to Pontefract for the annual Inter Squadron Cross Country contest.

Mike Hiley, squadron training officer, said: “The course was two and a half miles. We had cadets running in five of the six events. They came third in three and first in the 15-17 year old girls’ group, and first overall in the boys’ events. Our total points meant we came second overall. This was a tremendous achievement and the cadets will be back again next year with the aim of winning.”

Mr Hiley singled out cadets for praise. He said: “Cadet Danni Bosworth came second for under 15 girls – superb on her first time. Cadet Warrant Officer Tom Meager was running for the last time as a cadet and he was immensely proud to be in the winning boys’ team.”
