Aging gas pipes to be replaced in Barnsley

Work is underway in Barnsley to renew aging gas pipes in the town.

The National Grid is renewing gas pipes in Silkstone Common in a two-week project.

Worked start on Tuesday and involves engineers renewing the iron gas mains in Coates Lane near the junction of Pinfold Lane with new, hard wearing plastic pipes designed to last for at least 80 years.

National Grid authorising engineer, Paul Martin, said: “National Grid plays a vital role in keeping people warm and this essential work will mean that local people can continue to enjoy a safe and reliable gas supply for many years to come.

“We will make every effort to minimise any disruption and complete the project as soon as possible.”
