Aghan exit plea by MacShane

SOUTH Yorkshire MP and former Foreign Office minister Denis MacShane is calling for an immediate withdrawal of British troops from Afghanistan.

The MP, who represents Rotherham, spoke after the deaths of six British soldiers last week when their vehicle was blown up, and the massacre of women and children by a rogue US soldier.

Mr MacShane told the House of Commons that the planned time of withdrawal was too long.

He said: “Two years and nine months is half the length of the Second World War and a plan that cannot be changed in the light of circumstances is barely worth the paper it is written on.”

Mr MacShane added Britain ‘should honour the sacrifice of our men by ensuring that no more are sacrificed’.
