A Sheffield man who was adopted as a young baby is running the London Marathon to raise funds for the charity which helped him find his ‘forever family’.

Mike Delap, of Walkley, was adopted by his parents Moira and John in 1984.

The couple, who are from Stockport near Manchester, went on to have three birth children - Mike’s siblings Jonathan, Hannah and Nick.

Mike, aged 30, said: “My parents and I have always been very open about my adoption. A few years ago I started running as a hobby and decided to raise some awareness and a little money for a cause close to my heart.

“Naturally, I chose Adoption Matters as my main beneficiary. Adoption Matters helped me find the great life and upbringing that I have enjoyed. I’m doing this in an attempt to give back and hope that people may think about adopting a child into their family.”

Jenny MacQuire from Adoption Matters, said: “Mike is testament to the fantastic grounding that a loving adoptive family can provide and we hope that his story will encourage others to think about adopting.”

Mike aims to raise £1,000 by running the marathon on April 26. Sponsor him HERE.
