Additional safety work is to be carried out on a Barnsley road already undergoing repairs after suffering weather damage.
The A635 Lane Head Road at Cawthorne was already undergoing work to make safe the retaining wall which suffered weather damage earlier this year when highways engineers identified the need for further work to other sections of the road’s retaining walls, new road reconstruction and resurfacing.
Councillor Roy Miller, Barnsley Council’s Cabinet Spokesperson for Place, said: “It makes sense both financially and operationally to add these essential works onto this scheme while the road closure has been put in place.”
The additional work means that the road will reopen two weeks later than originally planned, in early September.
A diversion is in place for motorists.
