Active way to beat cancer
PHYSICAL activity and the control of body weight could improve survival rates after treatment for some cancers, say Sheffield Hallam University researchers.
Dr John Saxton, from the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing at Sheffield Hallam University, is researching the impact of lifestyle interventions such as increased physical activity on health outcomes in breast and prostate cancer patients.
He told a conference for obesity and cancer specialists, organised by the Association for the Study of Obesity and World Cancer Research Fund, that part of the research involves a controlled trial looking at women in Sheffield recovering from breast cancer treatment.
He said: "Increasing evidence supports a positive association between physical activity and survival after cancer treatment."
