DEVELOPERS who excavated land beside a main road in a Sheffield suburb has been told to build a retaining wall and erect barriers on the pavement to keep pedestrians away from the edge.
Construction in the grounds of a house off Eckington Road, Beighton, has involved digging out an embankment beside the street.
A Sheffield Council spokesman said: “We have identified the builders responsible for these works and requested an improvement in safety by moving the barriers out on the Eckington Road elevation.
“The requirement for the design of the retaining wall is also being checked by Bridges and Structures, as it is less than 2.5 metres from the highway. We will be checking to ensure the builders comply with safety criteria.”
