You may have too much cover

THEY may offer peace of mind, but extended warranties may add up to triple or quadruple cover.

Most appliances already come with a free manufacturer’s warranty or guarantee covering parts and labour that lasts up to two years.

Under The Sale of Goods Act 1979, the retailer is liable to repair or replace the machine for up to six years if it is considered unreasonable for the fault to have developed.

However, after the first six months you must prove the item already has a fault when you bought it even if it has taken until now to come to light. And household insurance often has a section covering white goods.

Warranties start on the day of purchase, so you may be quadruple covered from the off.
