‘What a waste of money’

IN December, consumer group Which? said warranties were “probably a waste of money” because today’s appliances are so reliable.

About 12 per cent need a repair in the first six years, says Which?, down from 21 per cent 10 years ago.

But the average cost of a warranty is half as much again as the average machine.

Paul Davies, of Which?, said: “On balance it appears that paying for repairs when they occur is your best bet. Putting money aside in case of repair seems more sensible.”
