Action Desk: Amey apologises over road markings blunder

Michael Kevan, aged 59, of Hunstone Avenue, Meadowhead, told Action Desk a worker from Amey who was painting parking lines knocked on his door and asked if his car was parked on the road.

The 59-year-old mechanic said it wasn’t and came out of his house a few hours later to find a parking line was painted on the road in the wrong place, partly covering his drive.

People have been quick to point out the mistake and Amey bosses said they are aware of the blunder back in October – but nothing has been done to change it.

Mr Kevan said: “There are people who park on the road in a morning and commute into Sheffield city centre.

“The signs for people not to park their cars on the road had been up a week and nothing had happened. I think it’s hilarious because it’s just so wrong. I cant believe they actually painted the lines – even with the car which was blocking their path it’s still been painted wrong. It’s ridiculous. I could’ve understood if they had towed the car but they just painted around it.

“Amey haven’t had the best of times of it and doing things like this doesn’t help their cause.

“They took ages with the street lights and the road resurfacing on this stretch.

“They have a massive job on their hands across Sheffield and now they have to come back and do the lines again here.

“People who walk up the road to the shops have been pointing it out. They’ve not finished painting the lines on the road I don’t understand why they didn’t leave it and finish it when there was space on the road. Somebody must’ve got some stick for it.”

A Streets Ahead spokesperson said: “We are aware that the lines on Hunstone Avenue have been painted incorrectly and we apologise for any inconvenience that this may have caused residents.

“We have identified some areas of the road surface that require some repair work and therefore the lines will be re-painted correctly once this work has been carried out.

“We have attempted to carry out work to the surface on several occasions; however parked cars have prevented us from doing so.

“We would urge residents to look out for signs on Hunstone Avenue informing them of when work will take place and when their cars will need moving so that we can carry out this work.”
