A BRICKLAYER accused of murdering a Sheffield teenager faces a retrial after jurors in the case failed to reach a verdict.
Danny Parr, 20, admits stabbing 19-year-old Jamie Stuart as he walked home after a night out in Parson Cross, but denies intending to kill him.
Jurors trying Parr at Sheffield Crown Court failed to reach a majority verdict after more than 15 hours of deliberations.
After dismissing the jury of seven men and five women, Judge Mr Justice Foskett said the case should be resolved ‘as soon as possible’.
“I do know how tense this is. He faces custody whatever the outcome because of the manslaughter acceptance,” the judge said.
Parr allegedly murdered Jamie as he walked home along Holgate Avenue after attending a 21st birthday party on July 23 last year.
Mr Justice Foskett also thanked the jury for their efforts.
“Although the matter has not been resolved, you leave with my personal thanks and the thanks of the public,” he said.
Parr, of Broom Close, Rotherham, will be retried later this year.
