AAA bus is heading back to Meadowhall

Throughout the day, on April 20, the special AAA Health Bus will be parked in the Orange Zone car park, near Argos, where members of the screening team will be talking to people about the condition, as well as scanning males over the age of 65, who have completed a self-referral pack beforehand.

Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms occur when the main blood vessel in the body, the aorta, weakens and expands. If left untreated, the swelling can lead to a rupture and a serious risk of death from internal bleeding. Treatment for AAAs detected through screening is highly effective, with the diagnosis process, which only takes around ten minutes, consisting of a non-invasive ultrasound scan of the abdomen and the results are provided there and then.

Michelle Keefe, AAA screening programme coordinator for South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw, said: “Members of the AAA team will be at Meadowhall on Thursday April 20, so we would like encourage all males over the age of 65 to contact the team beforehand to book an appointment.

“Shoppers who do not want to be screened on the day, can take away a self-referral pack, which will let them book an appointment for a scan at one of our 32 clinics across the region. The scan is quick, painless, free and could save your life.”
