A-ha announce farewell gig at Sheffield Arena
TAKE On Me hitmakers a-ha today announced their farewell tour which will see them return to where it all began - in Sheffield.
Norway's most successful band, who have sold 36 million albums worldwide, fondly remember visiting the city to record some of their debut LP, Hunting High and Low.
It produced hit singles, Take On Me - best remembered for its pencil-sketch animation and live action music video - The Sun Always Shines On TV, Train Of Thought, Love Is Reason and the title track.
They went on to sing the James Bond theme song The Living Daylights.
Now, 25 years on from their first album, the original trio of frontman Morten Harket, guitarist Paul Waaktaar-Savoy and keyboard player Magne Furuholmen, or "Mags", are calling it a day with a 10 date UK tour.
Their Ending On A High Note Tour 2010, featuring all their greatest hits, will see them play Sheffield Arena on Tuesday November 23. Tickets go on sale tomorrow at 9am.
The synthpop/rock band hit their peak in the 1980s but continued to have global success in the 1990s and 2000s, last year releasing their ninth studio album, Foot Of The Mountain.
Mags, aged 47, told The Star: "Sheffield has very special memories for us. This is where we recorded some of our first album. It was a derelict building and it's probably not there now. But we are looking forward to returning to Sheffield on our tour.
"This really is the end for the band and we are planning a spectacular night for all our fans. It's called Ending On A High Note Tour because that's what we want to do. Some don't know when to stop.
"If you are a a-ha fan, this is definitely the concert you don't want to miss.
"Take On Me obviously means a lot to our fans. It's amazing that something we wrote when we were so young has remained such a big part of our lives. It began as the Juicy Fruit Song and we recorded it twice before it was a hit. The music video was fantastic.
"The Living Daylights also goes down well when we perform that live. It will be part of our set when we perform all the a-ha hits in Sheffield."
Tickets are available in person at the Arena box office, on 0114 2789789 at sheffieldarena.co.uk, from the 24-hour credit card hotline on 0871 2200 260 or visit gigsandtours.com.
