The bridal party at the Sheffield nuptials of Ellie Purnell and Josh Hill today will certainly be a slender affair.
For the happy couple - together with Ellie’s dad Tony Purnell and step-mum Karen - have shed a staggering 13 stones at slimming classes.
Ellie and Josh, both IT technicians aged 22 and of Walkley, have lost around two stones each in preparation for the wedding at The Sitwell Arms in Renishaw and their Mexican honeymoon.
Bride-to-be Ellie, who has shrunk from a dress size 16 to a size 10, said: “We didn’t think we’d be able to lose it that well but we saw my dad and Karen losing it and thought we could do that!
“It was so nice to get a wedding dress three sizes down from the one I’d tried on before. It did help that all of us were doing it together. It was good to be able to share recipes and it really does help you when there is a bit of competition.”
Dad Tony, aged 46, was the biggest loser of the foursome - and when he gives Ellie away it will be as a shadow of his former self, as he has shed a massive six stones. Karen has lost another three and the pair, of Lower Walkley, have also transformed from couch potatoes to exercise addicts after starting to attend Slimming World classes in Crookes and Crosspool.
Later this month Karen, a business manager, is taking a fitness instructor course and Tony has qualified as a paragliding pilot.
The 47-year-old said: “Losing weight has made shopping for wedding clothes enjoyable rather than something to suffer.
“We never used to have photographs taken, now we just love it because we are so happy with how we look.
“Today we will be so proud to stand next to Ellie for the wedding pictures.”
Slimming World consultant Emma Allott runs classes every Monday at Wesley Hall, Crookes, and Wednesday at St Columba Church, Manchester Road, Crosspool at 5pm and 7pm.
