Sheffield has said a fond final farewell to one of its last surviving veterans of the WW2 Normandy campaign.

Ken Riley, who was a staunch anti-fascism activist, died aged 90 in hospital after falling ill at home.

Even in his 80s, the Grimesthorpe man was a proud trade unionist and travelled the country attending rallies and demonstrations.

Ken’s funeral at City Road Crematorium was attended by a guard of honour of Ken’s comrades bearing the standard of the Sheffield branch of the Normandy Veterans’ Association.
