A FORMER miner who became a police community support officer - and has been credited with cutting anti-social behaviour in Rotherham - is getting ready to meet the Queen.

Richard Kearney, aged 47, is to receive the MBE after being nominated for the award in the Queen’s Jubilee Birthday Honours list.

Richard started life down the pits but became a South Yorkshire Police PCSO and in 2004 became Wentworth South PCSO supervisor.

He has been credited with improving Victoria Rosehill Park for teenagers by building a skate park and multi-use games area, and co-organising the venue’s Party in the Park.

He will travel to Buckingham Palace with wife Anne-Marie and children Joshua and Natasha.

He said: “I still think it is not really happening and someone has sent a joke letter.”
