TINDER dry conditions following days of hot weather meant a busy weekend for fire crews.
A large burning area of scrubland off Knowle Road, Barnsley, took three hours to bring under control, while blazing trees and shrubs off Ringinglow Road close to Hathersage and a fire in a wood off Pentland Road, Dronfield Woodhouse were also dealt with.
Other fires broke out off Allpits Road, Calow, on Cromford Drive, Staveley, and off Woodhouse Lane, Bolsover, where a 400 square metre area of grass took hours to damp down.
A hedge and fence also caught fire on Sheepcote Road, Killamarsh, while at Birch Hall Golf Course near Unstone firefighters from Dronfield and Staveley battled a blaze covering 200 square metres of grassland.
A crew from Bolsover tackled a large fire on an allotment at New Shirebrook covering 50 square metres of grass, while Barnsley firefighters tackled a blaze in woodland near Elsecar Heritage Centre.
