From the Hollywood Hills to the Peaks

Talented Kya Garwood is putting her best foot forward by pulling on her walking boots for a 14-mile fundraising trek later this month.

A former Kya, now 38, who hails from Doncaster, will be taking to the muddy and windswept hills of the Peak District to collect cash for the RSPCA and Jane Tomlinson Appeal.

She said: “I’ve never walked this far before. But I’ve always enjoyed walking so I am looking forward to it.”

But it will all be a far cry from the showbiz world Kya enjoys on a daily basis.

The actress and presenter, who originally went by the name Julie Ann Melvin, has worked with a string of Hollywood’s leading ladies.

She kicked off her glittering showbiz career when she worked alongside Batman’s Catwoman star Michelle Pfeiffer on 2007 movie I Could Never Be Your Woman.

Kya said: “When I was 18, I came to London to study drama but ended up getting homesick so I came back up north. I ended up winning the Miss Sheffield beauty pageant and got a job working at Sheffield United as a matchday hostess.

“But after a while, I got itchy feet again and headed back to London and decided to go for it.”

She signed up with an agency and began body doubling - standing in for big name stars in movies and TV - in 2005 and has never looked back.

Kya, who still lives in London, said: “It has introduced me to many, many stars as well as directors and producers.

“The first time I saw Michelle I was petrified. Every time she spoke to me I was a gibbering wreck but gradually I became more confident and realised they are all normal people. We went to dinner and chatted like old friends.”

Since then Kya has enjoyed a string of other parts including recently starring in the smash hit ITV show Mr Selfridge.

But now she is turning her attentions to the walk on April 28, and said: “The furthest I’ve walked is probably from home near Tower Bridge to Oxford Street and back for a spot of shopping!”

Kya hopes to raise £1,000 for the Jane Tomlinson Appeal as well as the RSPCA.
