SHEFFIELD schoolchildren swapped lessons for litter when they spent an afternoon cleaning up their area.
Pupils from Stocksbridge High completed a litter pick around the school grounds and on Shay House Lane.
The event was one of a number of Environment Weeks activities aimed at encouraging young people to look after their communities.
Pupils at Woodhouse Primary School tidied up their school garden to create an outdoor learning space and a wildlife area.
And community clean-ups take place in Worrall Village and Hinde Common tomorrow from 10am.
On Sunday the council's Ranger Team will co-ordinate work at the fishpond corner site in Woodthorpe and at Foxfield Spring Wood in Burncross.
A Drawing the Garden and Open Gardens event will be held at Meersbrook Park tomorrow and Sunday with a drawing and print-making workshop. And tomorrow Steven Watts will share his experience and enthusiasm for local food and medicines with a walk round Endcliffe Park at Hunters Bar at noon.
A programme is available in libraries, park cafes, housing offices, health centres.
