"X Factor" and "star" dont really sit together...what about the Human League or a sporting personality to pull the switch. Pathetic choice (and at what size fee?).

I'll be giving this a miss - how disappointing. A poor effort.

What, who?

A lottery type competition should be run for a local Sheffield person to have the privilege not a bunch of hardly knowns. Then use to money saved to give some of the poor and homeless a decent Christmas instead.

I would support it and happily by some tickets!

I'm holding up a card that says "Nil Point" on this one.

What will this embarrasing effort cost the Council Tax payer. We see illuminations all year round with all the lights left on in public buildings all night and weekends. Sheffield should hang their heads in shame. A deserted and dangerous city centre. Not many will go there at night. I give full marks to MeadowHall. Maybe they should have been contacted to handle this effortless performance. What will the Councillors make from this. At least the homeless and youngsters living in shop doorways will get the benefit of seeing how money is wasted whilst they go hungry and cold as a rsult of this Council.

I agree with Rodgers. Sheffield City Centre is a complete disgrace. Its run down and filthy. I remember walking up the moor as a kid and it being packed on a Saturday. Now it's just full of tatty shops that sell garbage. Urine stains all over the paths from the night before, its just disgusting. Walk around Leeds city centre and you'll see what I mean. Great shops, no graffiti, all shops look new and clean. What do people that come to this city think?? Oh yeah they remember seeing the train station and thinking wow, this is a top city! Stop spending our tax money on rubbish and get things in the centre sorted out!!!
