A WOMAN walking through a Sheffield estate managed to fend off a mugger who hit her in the face and tried to steal her mobile phone.
The 49-year-old was talking on her phone as she walked along Gleadless Road, near the junction with Bartle Road, Gleadless, when she was targeted.

She told police a man walking towards her ran towards her, hit her in the face and grabbed at her p
hone.

But she fought to keep hold of her mobile and, after a struggle, the mugger ran off towards Newfield Green.

He was between 5ft 10in and 6ft, aged between 17 and 19, slim, wearing dark jeans and a white top with a hood pulled up around his face.

Police investigating the incident, at around 8.30pm on Monday May 5, want to hear from four men who stopped to help the woman.

Anyone with information should call PC Helen Bowdler at Attercliffe Police Station on 0114 2963407 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
