Woman, 89 hurt in cab crash

A MAN was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving after his cab hit an 89-year-old woman.
Police said the 22-year-old taxi driver was reversing into Machon Bank from Empire Road in Nether Edge, Sheffield, when he hit the pensioner as she was crossing the junction.

Police said the elderly woman was taken to the Northern General Hospital
and detained with a fractured ankle and bruising.

The taxi driver was quizzed about the incident before being released on police bail pending further enquiries.

Witnesses to the collision at 12.55pm yesterday should call South Yorkshire Police on 0114 2202970.
