See DS Neil Jessop's plea for witnesses to come forward
A DETECTIVE investigating the murder of Sheffield teenager Tarek Chaiboub today admitted he would be "scared to death" if a shooting had taken place close to his own home.
Det Supt Neil Jessop admitted fear is "only natural" following a fatal shooting in the community - but said the investigation into the Burngreave murder was going well.
Last night, officers arrested six people - including a boy of 13 - in connection with the death.
Five males aged from 13 to 22 and a woman in her 20s are currently being questioned by cops.
At a press conference this afternoon - one week on from the murder - Det Supt Jessop said: "I think when a shooting takes place in the community people will be frightened to death and, it is fair to say, I would be the same.
"Fear is only natural but the best way to deal with it is to talk to the police and tell them what you know."
Det Supt Jessop was speaking as police prepared to mount road blocks around the murder scene this afternoon, stopping cars, buses, taxis and pedestrians to ask them if they have any information that might help the investigation.
The exercise was co-ordinated to take place around the time Tarek, aged 17, was shot seven days ago.
He was killed outside Frenchie's barber shop on the corner of Spital Street at around 1.45pm.
Officers hope the police presence might jog some memories or uncover information that has not yet been revealed to officers.
Det Supt Jessop said: "What we're doing is having a seven day anniversary.
"We will have road checks in and around the Spital Street and Brunswick Road areas of Burngreave.
"We're not trying to bring the streets of Burngreave to a standstill by any means but we want to know if people can remember what they were doing at this time last week and whether they can help us in any way."
Three men dressed in black were seen fleeing the scene and officers are keen to speak to anyone who might have seen them.
Senior Investigating Officer Chf Supt Paul Broadbent said: "We need to speak to whoever was in the area at the time.
"Potentially there could be hundreds of witnesses out there."
