HE might have been in Iraq but South Yorkshire soldier Gaz Limer still managed to enjoy a traditional Christmas of sorts.
The 37-year-old Colour Sergeant is a vehicle fleet manager with the First Battalion The Duke of Lancaster's Regiment, and has been in Iraq since November.
He celebrated Christmas alongside his colleagues with a traditional "gunfire" awakening - where officers and seniors wake up the troops with pipes and drums.
They were then served a bacon roll and a cup of coffee with a dash of rum.
Senior staff remained on duty while the rest of the troops were allowed a day off to enjoy a traditional Christmas dinner - minus the alcohol.
The battalion also arranged a 5km Turkey Trot fun run in aid of the Help for Heroes charity.
Patrols re-commenced in the early hours of Boxing Day.
Gaz, from Treeton, will leave Iraq in April for Germany before relocating with the rest of the Battalion to Catterick in North Yorkshire.
