IMPOTENCE sufferers in Sheffield will be the first in the UK to be able to get Viagra online.
Lloydspharmacy has picked the city to trial its new online service which it says will spare men's blushes as they need only fill in a questionnaire to assess their suitability for anti-impotence medications.
Men don't have to talk about the problem as their answers are assessed online by a doctor who decides if it's appropriate for them to have the medication, which can be posted to their home or collected.
Crystal Peaks pharmacy manager John Watters said: "Men aren't very good at going to see their doctors.
"About 40 per cent of men over 40 have some sort of erectile dysfunction so it's not unusual. We know that people are embarrassed about it and they are more likely to suffer in silence and not do something about it."
Patients can obtain prescriptions and collect medication for other conditions including hair loss. They can also get the 'morning after pill' for emergency contraception.
Head of clinical services Clare Kerr said: "We have been offering an online prescription service through our website for some time but there are some people who may not want medicines sent to their home address and the new service makes access to treatment even easier for these people.
"Some conditions are so sensitive that people are not prepared to discuss them with a doctor and they may be tempted to go to non-reputable sources."
