Poem on revamped sewage plant

AN odorous ode to a revamped £8 million sewage plant has impressed the Bard of Barnsley.
Children from Littleworth Grange Primary Learning Centre helped Ian McMillan open Yorkshire Water's new-look Lundwood sewage treatment works by finishing a poem about the transformed site.

"Ian wrote the first two lines and the children were challenged to finish it off," said Riverlife campaign co-ordinator Jackie Abusin.

"Their enthusiasm was fantastic and we had more than 60 poems to choose from."

Alexandra Robinson, aged 10, was picked as the winner - and her words will now be incorporated into a new sign being erected at the entrance to the site.

Alexandra's poem:

If the rivers are sparkling then fish can breathe

And if the water is clear then I believe

That frogs can jump from leaf to leaf

And fish swim happily underneath.
