MYOUNGSTERS in Barnsley are celebrating the launch of a £133,000 urban play park today - nine years after the plans were drawn up.
The park, beside Blessed Sacrament Church in Athersley, is packed with features after children worked with architects to develop their dreams.

In the last 18 months the area has been transformed from bare land and now includes a BMX track, climbing frame, slides, seesaw, picnic site and an area for running.

An official opening ceremony was set to be held at 1pm today, when its name was also revealed.

Officials at Blessed Sacrament donated the land after recognising the need in the area for somewhere children could play safely.

But due to a lack of funding the plans were put on hold for more than nine years.

The scheme finally got underway after ASDA donated £80,000 - the biggest amount for a sustainable project in its 20-year history.
