A PREGNANT Sheffield woman was caught red-handed trying to smuggle a heroin substitute into Doncaster's Moorland Prison.
Mum-to-be Robin Beachell visited the jail with pal Kirsty Whiteley in February, to see Miss Whiteley's inmate brother, Doncaster Crown Court heard.
When officers in the visiting room saw Beachell put two hands into one of her pockets they decided
she was acting suspiciously.
The officers confronted her and found what turned out to be 10 tablets of the drug Subutex, commonly used to treat heroin addiction.
The 20-year-old told the police she had taken the pills into the prison knowing they were drugs, but not knowing what they were. She said she had done it because her friend had asked her to.
Kath Goddard, prosecuting, said: "She didn't know it was illegal but she knew it was wrong."
Miss Whiteley denied all knowledge of the drugs.
Katy Rafter, defending, said Beachell, of Rainbow Avenue, Hackenthorpe, Sheffield, had since had a baby, which was now five weeks old, and had made a full and frank admission.
She admitted possession of a class C drug with intent to supply at Doncaster Magistrates Court, but the matter was referred to the crown court for sentencing.
She was given a six-month suspended prison sentence, a 12-week curfew between the hours of 8pm and 6am, and ordered to complete 100 hours unpaid community work.
