A major route into Sheffield city centre was sealed off this morning after a man was stabbed on Bramall Lane.
The victim was taken to hospital last night with suspected stab wounds after the attack.

Police said the man, who is aged in his 20s, was the victim of "a serious assault" at around 7.30pm.

No other details were released by South Yorkshire Police but local residents said the victim was allegedly stabbed.

He is said to have staggered into the Earl of Arundel and Surrey on the corner of Bramall Lane and Queens Road to raise the alarm after the attack.

The man was taken to the Northern General Hospital for treatment, where he was detained overnight.

His injuries were this morning not though to be life threatening.

Police sealed off Bramall Lane and the pub remained under police guard this morning.

Detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the attack.

Charles Farleigh,

Bradway 10/03/2010 09:58:47
Why close the road?
This now seems to be the Police's favourite tactic and causes untold misery for those who are innocent of anything and are merely trying to get to work, to school, to visit friends etc.
I can understand it in the few hours after a major crime but not 12 hours after the event.

This is potentially attempted murder.

We don't know details, maybe the police were looking for the weapon and didn't want a member of the public stumbling on it?

I'm sure thats whats going through the mind of the Police as they got a report that someone had been stabbed, 'how can we disrupt Charles Farleigh and Miserable Les's day, i know we'll close a road! Unfortunately the world doesnt revolve around the both of you but i'm sure you'd have the same attitude towards the situation if it was your wife, child or even yourself. If the police had'nt closed the road you'd be complaining that they we're doing enough to catch the guy who did it. FYI they close roads to make sure they collect as much evidence as possible (which can be made slightly more difficult when its dark)

I do not understand modern Police matters.
Can someone explain why a fellow stabbed in Bramall Lane is sufficient excuse to close SHEFFIELD down.
Mind you this is not new. I used to park at Blonk Street, One afternoon there was a robbery and for some reason they shut the carpark. I was still still hours later but could get no sense out of the Police. I said if the thugs are still in the car park they must be dafter than whoever has instructed the police to shut the car park for hours.

Well said Papa Mase

Some people are either thick or very niave

The immediate area including the road adjacent becomes a scene of crime and as such has to be protected

How would people think if thier kid had been murdered and the police had arrested someone based on evidence they found at the scene and the murderers barrister was able to get them off becuase there was a possibility the offender had been able to pass through the area after the offence took place ?
