SOUTH Yorkshire's MPs were united in their opposition against a move to cut the time limit for abortions.
An analysis of voting from Tuesday's impassioned House of Commons debate showed all of the county's 15 MPs voted to maintain the current 24 week limit.

An attempt to reduce the limit to 22 weeks was defeated by 304 votes to 233, a majority of 71.

MPs also rejected bids to reduce the limit to 12 weeks, 16 weeks and 20 weeks.

Speaking after the vote, Kevin Barron, the MP for Rother Valley and chairman of the influential health select committee said: "I am very pleased that Parliament kept to what scientists suggested we do and that is to not reduce the number of weeks.

"I do remember back in 1990 reducing the weeks but there was good scientific evidence to do so. I am pleased with the way the South Yorkshire MPs voted."

Sheffield Hillsborough MP Angela Smith said: "There was no medical evidence to support a change and Parliament voted the right way."

i think abortion should be reduced because there are more babies surviving now born at 24 weeks than there was in 1990.
