THERE may be fewer than 80 days to Christmas but the festive season is coming early to Dronfield as the town's operatic society puts on a production of the musical Pickwick.
Based on Charles Dickens' Pickwick Papers, the show, which made Harry Secombe famous with the hit song If I Ruled the World, is at Dronfield Civic Hall from next Tuesday to Saturday.

Director Andrea Powell said: "We started rehearsals in the summer so we have been used to singing Merry Christmas for months.

"Although the show is set in the festive season in early Victorian times, it is really about the curious goings on with members of the Pickwick Club, led by Pickwick.

"It paints a fascinating picture of life and debt.

"The show is very much in the Oliver musical genre."
