A FORMER ambulance worker jailed 13 years ago for murdering his estranged wife has launched an Appeal Court bid to clear his name - claiming he became covered in her blood as he tried to save her life.
Derek Barron, aged 57, was jailed for life in 1995 at Sheffield Crown Court after he was convicted of repeatedly stabbing Janet, pictired with him, above, a massage parlour prostitute, at her flat in Sharrow.
But Barron, from Lindsey Drive, Parson
Cross, has always maintained he found her dead and tried to resuscitate her - spattering his jacket and shoes with her blood as he tried to revive her. The Crown's case at trial centred on these blood stains, which they said were evidence of his guilt.
Now Barron's legal team have taken on the services of Professor Robert Schroter, who famously testified at headteacher Sion Jenkins' successful appeal against his conviction for the murder of his foster daughter Billie-Jo.
The professor of biological mechanics will come out of retirement to give evidence if an appeal is granted.
